As small rural healthcare systems in Oklahoma and across the nation have struggled to keep their doors open, Share Medical Center in Alva hasn’t just survived, it has thrived, with a recent $7 million expansion and the continued addition of specialty services.

Hospital services: Maintaining 105 acute care and skilled nursing beds, the hospital and its dedicated staff provide a robust range of surgical, specialty, and diagnostic services including:

• Cardiology and endocrinology care and cataract surgery
• Surgical procedures such as diagnostic and surgical laparotomy and laparoscopy, D&C (dilation & curettage), and carpal tunnel release
• Occupational health
• Physical rehabilitation
• Sleep clinic
• Telehealth services

Emergency Services: A Level IV Trauma Center, SMC’s Emergency Department has been certified by the state of Oklahoma as a primary stroke center and is staffed with physician service 24/7. All staffers are ACLS certified for Advanced Cardiac Life Support and the hospital’s 30-minute transfer guarantee assures immediate care for even the most critical cases.  

Share Medical Center Clinic provides routine primary care, including medical physicals and internal medicine services. 

The Homestead provides an independent living environment in a retirement center owned by the city of Alva and operated by Share Medical Center.
